the Deep Blue
Journey to the deep in an exciting exploration of the planet’s largest ecosystem: the ocean
Take a Deep Dive into Marine Biology
Nearly 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered by oceans but its depths remain mysterious and understudied. In Exploring the Deep Blue, students examine the ocean’s unique ecosystems around the world from top to bottom, introducing them to a complete range of marine organisms, their interactions with each other and the environment. This course concludes with a survey of how the ocean has been impacted by humans and how we can work together to return it to balance. Exploring the Deep Blue prepares the next generation to appreciate, preserve, and collaborate with our oceans.
Get Inspired to Explore, Understand, and Protect Our Oceans
Exploring the Deep Blue approaches marine biology in an interdisciplinary way, drawing on the sciences of oceanography, marine biology, chemistry, and ecology. Students also explore the ocean’s role in human history, economy and cultures, ongoing conservation efforts, and the shared future of humans and the deep blue. Along the way, students gain a deep understanding of, appreciation for, and sense of connection with marine life and ocean systems.
Turn knowledge into action
with online and in-person learning
Knovva courses leverage the pedagogy of blended learning, combining online and in-person experiences. Students can engage with content independently on their devices and connect with learners around the world on our online platform. They can then dive further into course content with collaborative, project-based, teacher-guided classroom lessons.
Eploring the Deep Blue is conducted over 14 lessons with 12 modules of content and two modules where students work on final project preparation and presentation. The final project ties together all of the themes explored in the course as well as student’s own experiences working with their global community online.
