What is the G20?
“The Group of Twenty, or the G20, is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. The G20 brings together the leaders of both developed and developing countries from every continent. Collectively, G20 members represent around 80% of the world’s economic output, two-thirds of global population and three-quarters of international trade. Throughout the year, representatives from G20 countries gather to discuss financial and socioeconomic issues.”
– G20 2020 Committee
What is the Model G20 Virtual Summit?
Knovva Academy, the only official knowledge partner of the G20 2020 Committee, has designed a five-day virtual summit and role-playing game in which high school students develop global economic policy. Similarly to Model UN, Model G20 delegates take on roles as ministers, heads of state, or leaders of non-governmental organizations from around the world. These diplomats are presented with pressing economic and public health challenges and country-specific information, then tasked with creating spending models and budgets for the post-pandemic world, while simultaneously negotiating favorable outcomes in multilateral agreements. To win the most points, Model G20 delegates must understand economic and cultural differences, and develop personal relationships that empower them to move past debate and into productive conversation.

The New Normal: Imagining a Post-Pandemic World
Delegates at the Model G20 Virtual Summit will discover how international organizations and governments respond to seismic shifts in the economic, educational, social, and political landscapes caused by this pandemic. The role-playing game will focus and deepen students’ understanding of government spending and its relationship with international diplomacy. The goal of the program is to explore how COVID-19 has challenged countries and systems of government to adapt, transform, and build an economically vibrant future.
How can nations strengthen frontline service for pandemic response?
Faced with urgent short-term needs, what trade-offs was your country required to make, and how will you rebalance your priorities in the coming years?
How can nations work to simultaneously rebuild their own economies while reforging the economic links between countries?
Program Fee: $299
*Please note that the program fee is non-refundable once application is complete.
Are there any technical requirements to attend the Model G20 Virtual Summit?
Students enrolled in the Model G20 Virtual Summit must have regular access to a computer with a reliable high-speed internet connection. Students are expected to log in to Knovva Academy’s platform and Zoom to attend online simulation sessions. If any sessions require students to have additional software, students will be notified of these requirements in advance.
Do I need native English language fluency to participate?
No. While native English speakers might find it easier to participate verbally, we have numerous channels to ensure that all voices are included.
Can I join the program if I don’t have any Model G20 Summit experience?
Yes, of course! The Model G20 Virtual Summit welcomes high school students from all around the world, even those without Model G20 Summit experience.
What is the cancellation policy?
The program fee is non-refundable once the application is complete.
How will the Model G20 Summit impact my college application?
Participating in the Model G20 Virtual Summit will demonstrate to college admissions officers that you are committed to growing your leadership skills, developing your practical understanding of international affairs, and broadening your perspective as a global citizen. Studies show that high school students who participate in extracurricular activities are more likely to have higher grades, test scores, and aspirations for college. Knovva Academy students often attend top colleges and universities, and we attribute their success to their vibrant spirit of inquiry and their willingness to thoughtfully engage in Model G20 while keeping their grades high.
How is the Model G20 Virtual Summit different from the mG20 in Action club?
Model G20 Virtual Summit participants spend five days engaged in a role-playing game via Zoom, while mG20 in Action club members meet once a week during the school year, and collaborate online using Knovva Academy’s community forum. Both activities include opportunities to learn, collaborate with peers, engage in hands-on simulations, and speak publicly.
How much does the Model G20 Virtual Summit cost?
The fee is $299 USD per student for the October 2020 cohort. This fee covers all guest speakers and supports the teachers who facilitate each team.
